Exploration towards [the first] (History)
In 1897, there were the pioneers who took the first steps
and paved a path that had previously been untrodden.
Based on the principles of the ‘truth and service’
Soongsil Academy opened its doors for the first time in Pyeongyang, with only 13 students.
These pioneering efforts to change the world by the power of learning led to the foundation of Korea’s first modern university.
In 1902, Soongsil founded the Anna Davis Industrial Shop,
laying the groundwork for industrial-academic cooperation in the modern era.
Leading the opposition movement against the Japan–Korea Treaty of 1905 and the March 1st Movement,
Soongsil resolutely resisted the Japanese colonial rule’s forced Shinto shrine worship by voluntarily closing its doors.
This demonstrated that Soongsil became a symbol of the nation’s will and determination.
Sixteen years later, in 1954,
the spirit of Soongsil was reignited in Seoul
by the citizens and visionaries devoted to the institution.
In 1969, Soongsil University became the first university in Korea to offer computer science education, a pioneering move at a time when computers were rare.
Soongsil was also the first to establish a Graduate School of Small Businesses in Korea.
Looking towards the future of digital and artificial intelligence,
Soongsil University has positioned itself as an incubator for cultivating talent that will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution.

By earning a Grade A rating in the University Innovation Support Project Performance Evaluation for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, Soongsil has demonstrated the excellence of its ongoing and systematic efforts in educational innovation.
True to its name “Soongsil”,

Soongsil’s efforts to provide practical education that aligns with industry needs have yielded tangible results, including the establishment of Contract Departments with global corporations.

The Department of Information Security provides full tuition scholarship and monthly living expenses, as well as a laptop, to all students for two years.
During their Junior and Senior years, students are offered the same benefits and guaranteed employment at LGU+ upon passing the LG aptitude test.

Our goal is to train approximately 100 employees from Hyundai Motor Group and its affiliated companies to become professional safety managers by 2030.

The Soongsil Global Leaders Forum, which invites diplomats and renowned figures from around the world to share wisdom on coexistence as a global community, is paving the way for ‘Korea’s Soongsil’ to become ‘the world’s Soongsil’.
