Soongsil Institute which was founded in 1897 by American Missionary Dr. Baird was the beginning of Soongsil University. The first school building was constructed in 1905 by the help of Pyeongyang citizens and Christian circles. The school was authorized as a four-year university in the Korean Empire and became the first four-year university in Korea.

* Im Young-Gyu(School of Business Administration) : Through the plural joint degrees program, coming back to Soongsil after studying overseas for two years, degrees of both universities can be acquired simultaneously.
* Deung Jung-Jung(School of Social Welfare) : Soongsil University gives me a chance to grow more.
* Margot Amandine(Exchange Student(France)) : There are famous universities among old universities. Soongsil is the right university. So, I chose Soongsil.
Servant leader, Soongsil of truth and service
* Kim Dong-Jun(LH service team / School of Electrical Engineering) : Service of studying mentoring is being implemented with LH Corporation. Targeting teen heads of household in difficult surroundings, 1:1 learning is offered for them.
* Park Mi-Na(Department of Korean Language and Literature) : It is certainly believed that the Soongsil Baird Volunteering Community is a professional team in doing voluntary work systematically because it serves in specialized areas such as environment, knowledge, IT, and translation.
* Kim So-Na(“LaBoum” as a Laos educational service team / School of Social Welfare) : I have been to Laos to volunteer for four months last year by participating in the 7+1 program of Soongsil University. I had diverse experiences and learned a lot there.
What is the role of Soongsil in our society, as the only separated university in Korea from the mother school in PyeongYang? What values are had so as to pursue truth and service for the completion of founding philosophy of Soongsil?
When this kind of fundamental question is asked, the answer concludes in Korean reunification.
* Kim Ha-Ram(“Spring” as a club for the exchange of youths of South and North Korea / School of Social Welfare) : It is a club which is made with the purpose that university students defected from North Korea and students of South Korea who go to Soongsil University intend to experience imaginary Korean reunification before the real re unification coming.
* Shim Jin-Sung(Department of Political Science and International Relations / North Korean refugee student) : Soongsil University is willing to to play a bridgehead role in Korean reunification in the future.
* Kim Hyeon-seon(Westminster Choir / Department of Political Science and International Relations) : Soongsil University was started in Pyeongyang. The choir has been continued since Soongsil in Pyeongyang. If Korea is reunified quickly, the choir dreams of the day when we can sing songs together with students there.
* Kim Joo-Ha(President of NH Bank), Bae Myeong-Jin(Professor of Soongsil University), Park Moon-Sung(Sports Commentator), Im Chae-Young(Vice President of Hyundai Mobis Inc.), Choi Gyu-Bok(President of Yuhan Kimberly lnc.) : Communicating with the world with timely leadership and insight, creative and passionate talented people, competent people equipped with own competitiveness, tender-hearted talented people, competent people to be the salt and the light of the world with servant leadership, creative intellectuals, leaders with good personalities and values, harmonious cultured people, and challenging cosmopolitans, those are just us as heros in the world.
A mecca of real global leaders equipped with intelligence, good character, and beautiful behavior and university to foster creative leaders who will lead the time of Korean unification, it is Soongsil University.
